How to Research a Property

1

Identify the County

Find the county where the property is located. Use the map above or search by name. Each California county maintains its own assessor, recorder, and surveyor offices.

2

Find the APN

Use the county assessor or GIS viewer to look up the Assessor Parcel Number (APN) by address. The APN is the key to finding all recorded documents for a property.

3

Pull Maps & Records

With the APN, access assessor parcel maps, search for recorded tract/parcel maps, records of survey, deeds, and easements through the recorder's office.
